At the beginning of the a SIBO diet, or if you’re very symptomatic, it can be helpful to avoid or only eat small quantities of raw vegetables. That said, some people can do some soft lettuces, some can’t. Any diet that you use should be considered a starting point and then you need to specifically see what works for you.

These pancakes are amazing. They are delicious and filling. Thank you for your recipes.
I have read that banana are not allowed on SIBO diet and should only be used on low fodmap diet if they are with no brown spots. Can you help me understand how this recipe is considered ok to eat on both these diets?
Bananas are a fairly controversial topic when it comes to SIBO! On the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet), only bananas with brown spots are recommended but on low FODMAP, the Monash app (which I recommend) shows ripe bananas as low FODMAP in 1/3 of a banana. That said, I’d recommend seeing what works for YOU specifically. Not everyone reacts to all FODMAPs. I have some clients who can eat bananas with no issues and others who can’t. All the SIBO diets should be used as a starting point but then it needs to be tailored to you. Hope that helps!

What can be a sibo friendly substitute for banana in this recipe?
What is the yield for this recipe? (Banana Nut Butter Pancakes with Blueberry Compote)
Hi Angel, it’s three to four servings, depending on your appetite. 🙂
So basically the recipe x 6? ?
Ha! Well, I recommend starting with smaller amounts on all the recipes to see what you tolerate. But hopefully you do well with these!
How big a bag of blueberries are we talking? 😉
It’s hard to mess up compote but I would do at least a 10-ounce bag.
Aren’t baking soda and baking powder on the ‘No’ list for SCD/Gaps diets?
Hi Sarah,
Baking soda is SCD/GAPS legal but baking powder is illegal.

I’ve received conflicting information regarding what to eat and what not to eat. For instance, do we eat leafy veggies or no?

Hi Caroline, bananas may be considered SIBO-friendly, depending what diet you’re using. You can also find my recipe for rice flour pancakes here: https://hmmpdx.com/hive-mind-blog/new-sibo-30-minute-cookbook, if you are able to tolerate rice.
